Our Philanthropy

Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity believes in giving back to our global community. Our international philanthropic and service partner is Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. There are more than 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals worldwide. Each year these hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. Collectively they impact the lives of more children than any other children’s organization in the world.

Phi Delta Epsilon MD Alpha is proud to work with The Johns Hopkins Children's Center as our Local CMN Partner, located in Downtown Baltimore, Maryland.

Children’s hospitals are special places, graced with experts trained in the care and handling of small, fragile, sick and injured children. It is critical that we, as a society, support these islands of care because any child can get sick or become seriously injured. When they do, it is critical that there be a children’s hospital nearby. To learn more about CMN Hospitals, visit the CMNH website

Accomplishments

While never the purpose nor mission of any of our philanthropic work, MD Alpha has had the grateful honor of receiving recognition for our philanthropic efforts. These awards and accolades could not be done without our outstanding members, the greater UMBC community, and the support towards Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Since 2020 to 2025, roughly $34,000 has been fundraised to CMNH, a figure we are extremely proud of. Specifically, in the 2025 Fall Semester, our members were able to fundraise over $6,100, with the grateful and generous efforts of each other, their families, and our amazing community here in the greater Catonsville and Arbutus area. This marked the third highest amount we were able to fundraise across this 5 year period, which was especially momentous as it was also the official 10 year anniversary of Phi Delta Epsilon at UMBC, and 10 years since MD Alpha was Chartered.

For their efforts in 2025, MD Alpha was honored the Dr. Steve Soldinger Award of Excellence, a prestigious award handed out to only 12 chapters across North America in 2026, at the International Convention in February. This award highlights chapters who showcase exemplary and inspiring philanthropic missions, done through a combination of outreach, marketing, philanthropy, and amount fundraised. We are honored to have represented the Northeast through this accolade. MD Alpha also received Bronze Honors at this event for fundraising over $5,000, an award most recently won in 2023.
